Supporting Youth as Peer Mediators for Emotional Balance

Digitalized Emotional Questions for Youth Peer Mediators (DEQ) is dedicated to equipping young people with skills in emotional awareness and conflict resolution. Our mission is to foster respectful dialogue, counter hate speech and cyberbullying, and promote inclusivity and active citizenship among youth, including those with special needs. In its basic form, peer mediation can be carried out by a young mediator with mediation training—and can resolve conflicts between students, between teachers, between students and teachers, or between the school and parents. Youth who completes mediator training help their classmates resolve disputes among themselves. Peer mediation deepens their communication and social skills, promotes shared responsibility and participation, and gives children confidence in their own ability to resolve conflicts peacefully and constructively.
